3D Configurator and Social Media Ads: Send Clicks Somewhere Useful

In short: Sending Instagram and Facebook ads to a 3D configurator, opened on the advertised product and ending in a message button, means inquiries arrive with sizes and options already picked instead of a name and a phone number with no context.

When a manufacturer spends money on Instagram and Facebook ads, the ad usually ends in a lead form or an empty "Send message" button. What comes in is a name, a phone number and, if you're lucky, "price?". If the ad lands on a 3D configurator instead, opened on the product you advertised, the person who tapped starts designing their building, home or barn, and the inquiry that reaches you already carries sizes, options and an image. Same ad budget, very different inquiries to work with.

What happens today with ads that end in a form

Picture a metal building company running a video of a finished carport. The ad does its job: lots of people see it, some tap. What follows is usually:

  • Lead forms with a name and a phone number, and no idea what that person wants.
  • "How much?" messages you have to answer one by one with the same questions: what size, open or enclosed, where's the site?
  • Plenty of browsers mixed in with real buyers, and no way to tell them apart without talking to everyone.

Your rep spends the day asking the basics, and the people who were actually ready to buy cool off while they wait. The ad worked. What breaks is everything after the tap.

What changes when the ad lands on the configurator

Three things change.

The person who tapped keeps looking at the product. They go from a video of the carport to the carport in 3D, which they can spin, stretch, close in on one side and view at night. No change of subject, no cold form.

Browsers filter themselves out. Someone who just wanted to look, looks and leaves. Someone who's really thinking about buying tries sizes, picks options and asks for a quote. Your rep doesn't have to figure out who's who.

The inquiry arrives built. When the buyer taps the last button, the message says which product, what size and which options, and it includes the link to that configuration. I wrote about this in qualified leads with a 3D quoting tool.

How to set up the path, step by step

  1. One ad per product or use. "Equipment shed," "2-bedroom home with porch," "Stalls for your barn." The closer the ad looks to what opens next, the better.
  2. Show the product changing in the ad. A short clip of the configurator —the building getting longer, the door opening, the house adding a bedroom— says "you can design this yourself" better than any copy.
  3. The link opens that configuration, not the home page. The Estructuras 3D configurators have a Share button that creates a link to an exact configuration. That same kind of link is what goes in the ad: whoever taps sees the carport from the ad, not a menu.
  4. Built for the phone. Nearly everyone coming from Instagram or Facebook is on a phone, scrolling with a thumb. If the 3D is slow or the buttons are tiny, they're gone. More in why a 3D quoting tool has to work on mobile.
  5. Close on the channel your buyer uses. The final button opens WhatsApp, a message or an email with the configuration written out, and your rep picks it up with full context. See WhatsApp and 3D quoting.

What you can track

One upside of this path is that it leaves a trail. As part of a custom build, the tool can record which ad each inquiry came from and what each person configured. Over time, that tells you things you're guessing at today:

  • Which sizes people ask for most in each area.
  • Which options get picked and which ones almost nobody touches.
  • Which ad brings inquiries that turn into sales and which one brings mostly browsers.

That helps you decide what to advertise, what to build in batches and which options are worth simplifying. More in what your customers configure.

Common objections

"People don't want to design anything, they want a price." Maybe. That's why the configurator opens already set up with a sensible configuration, and the quote button is visible from the start. Whoever wants to play with it, does; whoever doesn't still asks, but with the product from the ad already identified.

"Without a price on screen, they'll leave." Each manufacturer decides whether to show a reference price. The public configurators on this site don't show prices; in a custom build, showing a ballpark or leaving it to your rep is your call.

"My lead form already works." You don't have to drop it. Run one ad to the configurator and another to the form, and compare the kind of inquiries each one brings.

Where to start

If you already run ads, the easiest start is a single product: the one people ask about most. Set up the configurator for it, an ad that shows it changing, and a link that opens it ready to go. That's enough to see the difference in the kind of inquiries you get.

You can see what a configuration link looks like by designing something in the prefab homes configurator and tapping Share. Frequently asked questions

Yes. With a link that opens an exact configuration, like the one the Share button creates, an ad for a 40 × 80 ft building opens that building and not the configurator's start screen.

Does this work for ads on other platforms?

Yes. The link is the same on any platform or in a message. What changes is the ad, not where it lands.

Does the configurator have to show prices to work with ads?

Not necessarily. What matters is that buyers see their product and that asking for a quote is easy. Whether to show a reference price is each manufacturer's decision.

Can I tell which ad brought in each inquiry?

That can be built for you: record where each visit came from and attach it to the inquiry, so you know which ads bring buyers and which don't.
