Metal building configurators compared: what each one offers

In short: In the US, online 3D designers for metal buildings are an established practice (General Steel, Mueller, Worldwide Steel Buildings, Armstrong Steel, Carport Central), while in Argentina what you find are quoting tools with an estimated price and no 3D, pre-sizing tools and quote request forms.

In the United States, metal building manufacturers have used online 3D designers for years: the customer puts their building together, sees it in three dimensions and requests a quote. In Argentina, what we found are quoting tools with an estimated price but no 3D, calculation tools and quote request forms. Here we go over what each one offers and what a parametric 3D quoting tool adds.

3D metal building designers in the US

All the information below comes from each company's website, checked in October 2026.

  • General Steel. A steel building manufacturer. It has a "3D Building Designer" at design3d.gensteel.com, whose page title is "IdeaRoom 3D Configurator," plus a three-step "Price Your Building Online" form for people who already know their dimensions. According to its website, the price comes through a quote.
  • IdeaRoom. The configurator provider behind several of these designers. It describes itself as "the sales tool for custom buildings" and covers sheds, carports, post-frame and pre-engineered metal buildings. For carports, the customer can complete the purchase online; for metal buildings, the design produces a more qualified lead for the sales rep. Pricing isn't listed on its website (source).
  • Mueller, Inc. A Texas manufacturer with a free "Building 3D Visualizer": you start from a template or from scratch, explore sizes, colors and layouts, and send the design to a representative who prepares the quote. It also has a "Building Quote Assistant" (source).
  • Worldwide Steel Buildings. Its "3D Building Designer" lets you change width, length and height, roof style and pitch, windows, doors, roll-up doors, cupolas and colors. The design can be saved, shared or used to request a free quote (source).
  • Armstrong Steel. It keeps 3D building design separate from a different tool, "Price My Building," used to request the quote (source).
  • Carport Central. Sells carports and metal buildings with a free 3D configurator. When done, the customer can submit the order online and start payment, or request a quote with installation (source).

What they have in common and what they do well

The pattern repeats: the customer designs on their own, with lots of editable parameters, and the design ends in a quote request to a sales rep. Only with simpler products, like carports, does it go all the way to an online order. In our search we didn't find these designers showing a final price for a metal building on screen; their websites don't say they do.

What they do well is clear: they give the buyer a way to think through their building before calling, and they give the sales rep an inquiry that arrives with dimensions, roof and openings already defined. That's what we call qualified leads on this blog, and in metal buildings it's already an established practice.

They're a useful reference if you sell in the US market: they work in feet, with US building types, codes and suppliers, and IdeaRoom doesn't publish pricing. For an Argentine metal fabrication shop, they're mainly a good example of how the industry sells.

What exists in Argentina

Based on what we found in October 2026:

  • NurPanel (General Pico, La Pampa). An insulated panel manufacturer with a three-step online quoting tool for a Modular Shed (Tinglado Modular), a Modular Building (Galpón Modular) and Kit Boxes. It calculates an estimated price in USD on screen, with floor area, dimensions and, for the shed, approximate weight, and it generates a numbered PDF quote that it also sends by email. It shows a "representative diagram"; its website doesn't say whether it's 2D or 3D. It does the hardest part very well: an instant price and an automatic PDF for a modular product.
  • HODOZA – Galpones y Tinglados (Buenos Aires City). A very thorough quote request form: location, dimensions, roof type (curved, single-slope or gable), insulation, foundations, cladding and floor, with the option to attach photos or drawings. It doesn't show an instant price, but it gathers the technical data needed to quote properly.
  • EDICI Ingeniería (Paraná). A structural engineering firm that publishes a per-m² price guide for metal buildings (June 2026) with reference values (a simple open-sided shed around USD 70/m², a standard enclosed building USD 90–130/m², a turnkey industrial building USD 250–350/m²), plus tools to estimate cost and pre-size steel sections, purlins and steel weight. It notes that each job is quoted based on span, height, wind, soil and finish.

In our search we didn't find an Argentine manufacturer of metal buildings or open-sided sheds with a parametric 3D configurator and real-time pricing published on its website. That doesn't prove one doesn't exist; it's what came up.

What a parametric 3D quoting tool for metal buildings adds

If you combine the best of what exists (the US manufacturers' 3D designers, NurPanel's instant price, the technical detail of HODOZA's form), you get an idea of what a quoting tool built for an Argentine metal fabrication shop can do:

  • The customer sees their building, not a similar one. In the public metal building and open-sided shed configurator I built with Estructuras 3D, you can change the span from 6 to 40 m, the length from 6 to 90 m, the eave height from 3 to 12 m, the roof pitch from 5 to 35% and the frame spacing from 3 to 9 m, and the whole structure regenerates.
  • Local building types. Truss frame, solid-web frame or curved roof; gable or single-slope roof; open, half-height, fully enclosed, block + metal sheeting or brick + metal sheeting walls; sliding door, walk door, windows, side canopy; concrete, wood or rubber floor; sheeting colors. In meters.
  • A link that opens that exact configuration, to send over WhatsApp or save with the inquiry.
  • Pricing from your factory's rules, when it's developed for a specific company: the same rule that builds the frames calculates the kilos of steel, and the manufacturer updates the price table. The public configurator doesn't show prices; that's part of each project.

I go into detail in metal building 3D quoting tool, and how to quote when steel goes up every month in updating prices with inflation.

What's right for your metal fabrication shop?

  • If you sell open-sided sheds or buildings in fixed modules, a quoting tool with an estimated price like NurPanel's shows it can be done without 3D, and it may be enough for you.
  • If every job is very different and you need soil, foundation or site survey data, a detailed form like HODOZA's organizes the inquiry before you quote.
  • If you want a cost reference or need to pre-size, EDICI's tools are a good starting point.
  • If your customer says "send me what it would look like," your sales reps quote over WhatsApp, and you want what's shown, what's quoted and what's built to be the same thing, that's where a parametric 3D quoting tool adds value. See also costly quoting mistakes.

Facundo Campo, a software developer based in Quilmes, Buenos Aires, builds these custom quoting tools for manufacturers on his Estructuras 3D engine. Frequently asked questions

Are there 3D metal building configurators in Argentina?

In our October 2026 search we found quoting tools with an estimated price and no 3D, like NurPanel's, quote request forms like HODOZA's, and pre-sizing tools like EDICI's. We didn't find a manufacturer with a parametric 3D configurator and published real-time pricing, although that doesn't prove one doesn't exist.

Do US 3D designers show the price of the building?

Generally, according to their websites, the design ends in a quote request to a representative. For carports, Carport Central lets you submit the order online and start payment.

Can I use a US metal building designer for my shop?

They're designed for their market: dimensions in feet, US building types and suppliers, and in IdeaRoom's case, pricing isn't listed on its website. For Argentine building types, in meters and with prices in pesos or dollars based on your cost logic, local development is the better fit.

Does the Estructuras 3D metal building configurator show prices?

The public configurator doesn't. Live pricing, calculated with the manufacturer's cost table, is developed in each custom project.

An online price calculator takes sizes and options and returns a number; a 3D configurator does the same math but also shows the product being quoted. 3D matters when the buyer doesn't understand what they're choosing or when mistakes are expensive.
