3D Configurator for Garden Rooms, Sheds and Stables in the UK
By Facundo Campo, 3D quoting tool developer
In short: A 3D configurator lets a UK maker of garden rooms, sheds, timber garages or stables have homeowners design their building in feet, see it in their garden, walk through it and send an inquiry with every option already chosen.
A 3D configurator for a UK garden building company is a web tool where homeowners design their garden room, shed, timber garage or stable block, see it in 3D as they choose sizes and options, and send an inquiry with everything decided. In the UK these products are bought by people who've been browsing for weeks: they've seen dozens of photos and they want to see theirs, at the size that fits their garden.
Who's buying, and what they ask
If you build garden buildings in Surrey, Kent, Yorkshire, the Cotswolds or anywhere else in Britain, you know the buyers.
- The garden room buyer wants a home office, a gym or a studio at the bottom of the garden. They ask about size, glazing, insulation, where the desk goes and how it looks from the kitchen window.
- The shed buyer wants storage or a workshop. They compare apex (gable) and pent (single-slope) roofs, door position, windows, cladding and color, often between 8 × 6 ft and 12 × 8 ft.
- The timber garage buyer asks whether a car fits, where the doors go, and whether a log store or a canopy can be added on the side.
- The stable buyer wants a row of stables with a tack room, or an internal "American barn" layout. They ask about stable sizes, doors, overhangs and how it sits next to the paddock.
Four products, four conversations. What they share: the buyer wants to see the building before they pick up the phone.
Garden rooms: the floor plan and the inside
A garden room is bought from the inside. The buyer pictures sitting at the desk, looking out through the doors at the lawn.
The closest thing you can try today is the prefab home configurator. It has a floor plan editor: drag rooms, resize them, add a shower room, edit doors, windows and the entrance, move furniture, with dimensions and undo. You pick a flat, single-slope or gable roof, timber, stone or brick cladding, interior finishes, floors and lighting. With walk-through mode, the buyer stands inside at eye level; with night view, they see it lit up on a winter evening, which is when most of them will use it.
A garden room configurator for your company would be built to order on the same engine, with your sizes, your glazing options and your cladding.
Sheds and timber garages: quick decisions, lots of comparing
Sheds and garages sell on speed. The buyer wants to try a 10 × 8 ft apex with double doors, then a 12 × 8 ft pent with a side window, then go back to the first one. If that takes an email and a two-day wait each time, they'll buy somewhere else.
There's no public shed configurator on this site, but the engine builds structures from rules, so a shed or garage is developed on top of it. To get a feel for how it behaves, try the metal building configurator: span, length, roof pitch, gable or single-slope roof, cladding colors, a sliding door that actually opens, a walk door, windows and a side canopy with width and drop. In yours, the rules would be your catalog's: the sizes you make, which doors go on which wall, whether a log store attaches to that model.
I explain why nothing needs to be drawn by hand in parametric rendering.
Stables: the configurator that already exists
Stables are the one product here with a public configurator ready to try. The horse stable configurator has a rural setting with horses; 1 to 20 stables of about 10 × 10, 11.5 × 11.5 or 13 × 13 ft; a continuous row, center aisle, facing rows or a single stable; tack rooms; standard or V-front doors, hinged or sliding; timber walls or walls with bars; and a full surrounding canopy, simple or truss, with concrete, timber or rubber flooring.
It uses the same geometry as the quoting tool I built for EQUIBOX, a horse stable manufacturer in Berazategui, Argentina. That's a real system in production: a public 3D tool, a sales dashboard with prices only for reps and PDF quotes that include the render.
Feet, pounds and British English
The site and configurators run in Spanish and English. For a UK company, the custom tool shows feet and inches (or meters too, if your customers use both) and prices in pounds if you choose to show them. The wording would be yours: shiplap or feather edge, apex or pent, stable block or American barn.
Prices are your call. The public configurators on this site don't show them; in a custom build, prices can show on the website or only when a sales rep is logged in. More on getting quotes right in costly quoting mistakes.
Planning rules depend on size, height, position in the garden and your local council; buyers should check with the council or a planning professional. The configurator shows the building, it doesn't give planning advice.
What changes for your sales team
- Inquiries arrive designed. "Garden room, 16 × 10 ft, single-slope roof, bifold doors on the long side" comes in as a link that opens that exact building.
- Fewer site visits for questions that a picture answers. The buyer has already seen it in 3D.
- A tool for the showroom and garden shows. At your stand, visitors design on a tablet and leave with a link. See selling at agricultural shows.
- Leads you can sort. See qualified leads with a 3D quoting tool.
Working with me from Argentina
I'm Facundo Campo, a software developer in Quilmes, Buenos Aires, and I design and build 3D quoting tools for manufacturers end to end. The UK is three or four hours ahead of Argentina depending on the time of year, so my morning is your afternoon, and that's when we talk.
You send me your catalog, photos, drawings of your models and a few sample quotes. We go over them on a video call. I send links you can try in any browser, on a computer or phone, and you approve the work step by step. I work in English and Spanish.

Frequently asked questions
Can the configurator show sizes in feet?
Yes. For a UK company it can show feet and inches, meters, or both, and pounds if you decide to show prices. That's set up as part of the custom build.
Is there a garden room or shed configurator I can try?
Not as a public configurator. The closest are the prefab home configurator, with its floor plan editor, and the metal building configurator for shed-style structures. The horse stable configurator is ready to try as is.
Does the configurator handle planning permission?
No. Planning depends on the building, its position and your local council. Buyers should check with the council or a planning professional.
How do we work together across time zones?
The UK is three or four hours ahead of Argentina, so there's a good chunk of the working day we share. We do video calls then, and you test everything through links in your browser.
