3D Configurator for Builders in the Dominican Republic

In short: In the Dominican Republic, a 3D configurator helps a builder that sells industrial buildings, prefab vacation villas and homes for Dominicans living in the US: every buyer designs and sees the project in 3D before the quote.

A 3D configurator for a Dominican builder is a web page where the buyer designs their industrial building, villa or home, sees it in 3D while choosing, and asks for a quote with everything defined. In the Dominican Republic, the same company often deals with three very different buyers: the business that needs a warehouse, the investor who wants vacation villas, and the Dominican who lives in New York or Florida and is building back home.

The diaspora: building on the island from New York

Picture a Dominican who lives in the Bronx or in New Jersey and owns a solar (a building lot, in Dominican Spanish) in Santiago, in San Francisco de Macorís or out in the Cibao countryside. They want to build a house for their parents, or their own for when they move back. They'll be deciding from a distance, in spare moments, often at night after work.

This buyer has two problems a configurator handles well:

  • They can't go and look. They need to understand the house without visiting the factory or the lot.
  • The family deciding is spread out. Mom on the island, a brother in Boston, a spouse sitting next to them. Everyone has an opinion.

With the prefab home configurator they build the house in the floor plan editor: drag rooms around, add a bedroom, add a porch, pick the roof, finishes and flooring. Walk mode lets them move through it. The share link sends that exact house to the whole family, who open it on their phones. I explain it in sharing a configuration by link.

For a Dominican builder, that changes the sale: instead of sending photos of other customers' houses, you send a link to this customer's house.

Prefab villas for tourism

In Punta Cana, Bávaro, Las Terrenas, Cabarete or up in the mountains of Jarabacoa, the villa buyer is an investor. Often a foreigner, often buying to rent out. They care less about the structure than about the result: the terrace, the pool, how it looks at night, how many guests it sleeps.

3D shows them exactly that. The home configurator includes a pool, porch, stone or wood finishes, real kitchen and bathroom fixtures, and lighting. Night view shows the villa with the lights on, which is the picture the investor already has in mind when they think about their guests. I wrote about it in night mode in a 3D configurator.

Since many of these buyers speak English, the configurator can run in Spanish and English. The Estructuras 3D site and configurators already work in both.

Industrial and commercial buildings

The third buyer is a business: a plant for a manufacturer in Santo Domingo or Santiago, a warehouse for a distributor, a building in a free trade zone. They think about clear span, height, doors and offices.

The metal building configurator is the closest one to try: width, length, overhang, pitch, truss or solid-web frames, walls, door width and height, walk door and colors. In industrial building 3D configurator I cover what changes when spans and heights get bigger.

Hurricanes, wind and rain: talking about the roof

On a Caribbean island, buyers ask about the roof before anything else. How it's anchored, what pitch it has, whether the overhangs are too long. Those are technical questions the sales rep has to answer with care and, when needed, with the company's engineer.

What 3D adds is that the customer sees what's being discussed: the pitch, the overhang, the frame type. It doesn't replace structural design, which belongs to the builder and local professionals, but it keeps the conversation on track. The rules the company already follows (the longest overhang it sells, which frame it uses for each span) get loaded into the configurator and are applied every time, as I explain in turning building rules into software.

Prices in pesos or dollars

A Dominican builder usually quotes local customers in pesos and the diaspora or investors in dollars. The configurator can handle both currencies as part of the custom development, with a price table the company manages. More on that in quoting in multiple currencies.

Prices can stay with the sales team only. That's how the tool I built for EQUIBOX works, a horse stable manufacturer in Berazategui, Argentina: the public designs in 3D, and the sales rep sees prices, shipping and payment options.

Working with me from the island

I'm Facundo Campo, a software developer based in Quilmes, Buenos Aires, Argentina. I work remotely, in English and Spanish. The Dominican Republic is one hour behind Argentina, so our workdays overlap almost completely.

Your company sends me its catalog, photos of past projects, sample quotes and the rules you follow. I put together a first version, send it as a link to test in the browser or on a phone, and we adjust it over video calls. Day-to-day contact is on WhatsApp or email.

If you want to see how your product would look, try the 3D configurators, read about custom 3D quoting software, or message me on WhatsApp at +54 9 11 6193-3176 or email facundocampo100@gmail.com. I answer in English and Spanish.

Frequently asked questions

Can a Dominican living in the US design the house from there?

Yes. The configurator opens in a phone or computer browser, from any country. They design the house, walk through it and share the link with their family on the island.

Does the configurator calculate hurricane resistance?

No. Structural design is done by the builder and its professionals. The configurator applies the rules the company already uses and shows in 3D what's being sold; for anything regulatory, check with a local professional.

Can it be in English for foreign investors?

Yes. Language, currency and units are set during the custom development. The public configurators already run in Spanish and English.

Is there a villa configurator?

The closest is the prefab home configurator, with its floor plan editor, pool, porch and finishes. A villa with a different design gets built to order on the same engine.
