Sharing a Configuration by Link: Open Exactly What the Buyer Built
By Facundo Campo, 3D quoting tool developer
In short: Sharing a configuration by link creates a URL that opens exactly the product the customer built, with its dimensions and options, so the sales rep, family or business partner can see it without anyone describing it or rebuilding it.
Sharing a configuration by link means tapping a button and getting a URL that, when opened, shows exactly what was built: same dimensions, same options, same colors. All three Estructuras 3D configurators have that button, Share. It sounds like a small feature. It's one of the ones that changes the sale the most, because with custom structures one person almost never decides alone, and almost everything gets discussed over text.
The problem: describing a custom product in a message
Think about how an inquiry travels today. The buyer has a 50 × 100 ft building with a big door and a side canopy in their head. They describe it to their partner over the phone. They message the manufacturer: "I want a 50 by 100 building with a door." The rep asks: what height, what walls, which side for the door? Five messages back and forth. Then the buyer tells their accountant, who pictures something else.
Everyone involved rebuilds the product in their own head, and every version is a little different. With a link, everyone opens the same thing.
How buyers use it
The buyer designs the product on their phone, walks through it, checks it at night, changes the sheeting color. Once they like it, they tap Share and get a link. With that link they can:
- Save it to pick up another day without starting over.
- Send it to you along with the quote request.
- Compare two versions: one at 50 × 100 ft and one at 60 × 100 ft, each with its own link.
The key is they don't need to know what anything is called. They don't have to know what a "truss frame" or "half-height walls" means: they picked it by sight, and the link carries it.
How the family or partner uses it
This is the part people underestimate. A prefab home gets decided by a couple, sometimes with the kids chiming in. A farm building gets decided by the owner and a partner or the farm manager. A horse barn, by the owner and the barn manager.
With the link, the other person opens the same thing on their own phone, whenever they get a chance. They spin it, walk through it at eye level (more in walking through a 3D configurator), and if they want something different, they change it and share their version. The conversation goes from "that's not how I pictured it" to "what if we move the door to this side?"
For you, that means a sale that doesn't stall on "I need to talk it over at home." The talk at home already happened, with the product right there.
How sales reps use it
On your side, the link works both ways.
When an inquiry comes in, the rep opens the link and sees exactly what the customer built. No asking for sizes or options: they're already there. The rep can reply with a quote or a specific suggestion. I wrote about this in qualified leads with a 3D quoting tool.
When the rep makes a suggestion, they build a configuration, share it, and text it to the customer: "I put together this option with a side canopy, open it and take a look." The customer doesn't get a static PDF. They get something they can look at, walk through and change. There's more on pairing this with the channel you already use in WhatsApp and 3D quoting.
There's also a behind-the-scenes use: if something looks wrong in a configuration, sending the link to the developer is the fastest way to show the problem.
How it ties everything together
The link is the piece that connects everything else:
- The buyer designs it and picks colors and materials by sight (see choosing colors and materials in 3D).
- They share it with family and adjust.
- They send the link with their quote request.
- The rep opens it, quotes it and, in a tool with private pricing, sees the price when logged in.
- The approved configuration is what goes to production, with nothing lost in translation.
In the system I built for EQUIBOX, a horse barn manufacturer in Berazategui, Argentina, quote requests go out over WhatsApp with the configuration attached, and the PDF quote includes views from the same render the customer saw. Same idea: everyone talks about the same thing every time.
Try it
The best way to get it is to use it. Build something in the metal building configurator, the prefab home one or the horse stable one, tap Share, and open the link on another device.
I'm Facundo Campo, and I build 3D configurators and quoting tools for manufacturers, working remotely from Buenos Aires, Argentina. If you want your customers and your reps always talking about the same product, message me on WhatsApp at +54 9 11 6193-3176 or email facundocampo100@gmail.com. I answer in English and Spanish. Frequently asked questions
Does the link open exactly the same configuration?
Yes. It opens the product with the same dimensions, options, colors and materials it had when Share was tapped.
Can the person who gets the link change the configuration?
Yes. They can change it and, if they want, share their own version with a new link. The original configuration stays as it was.
Does anyone need to install anything to open the link?
No. It opens in the browser on a phone, tablet or computer, with no sign-up and nothing to install.
Does the link show prices?
Not in the public configurators on this site. In a custom quoting tool, you decide whether prices are visible to the public or only when a logged-in rep opens the configuration.
