3D Configurator for Builders in Costa Rica: Cabins, Homes, Warehouses
By Facundo Campo, 3D quoting tool developer
In short: A 3D configurator lets a Costa Rican company that builds warehouses, prefab homes and vacation cabins show the project in 3D to buyers who often live in the US or Canada and decide without ever standing on the lot.
A 3D configurator for a Costa Rican builder is a web page, in Spanish and English, where the buyer designs their warehouse, prefab home or vacation cabins, sees them in 3D and asks for a quote with everything defined. Costa Rica has one buyer that shapes the whole sales process: the foreigner who lives in the US or Canada, bought a lot in Guanacaste or on the southern Caribbean coast, and has to make decisions from far away.
The buyer who's thousands of miles away
Picture a couple from Toronto or Colorado who bought a lot near Nosara or Uvita to build three cabins and rent them out. They won't fly down to look at a scale model at the factory. They'll search online, in English, and ask several companies for a price by email or WhatsApp.
Before the price, what they need is to understand what they're buying:
- How the cabins look on the lot, side by side.
- How many bedrooms fit, where the bathroom goes, whether there's a deck.
- Which finishes are available: wood, stone, plaster, colors.
A company that sends them a PDF with a floor plan and a price list is competing with one that sends a link where they design the cabin and walk through it. The link opens that exact configuration, so the couple can talk it over with each other, with their accountant, or with the property manager who'll run the rentals. I wrote about this in selling made-to-order products remotely.
Vacation cabins: selling an experience, not just square feet
Cabinas (what other places call cabins or bungalows) sell on how they feel. A tourism entrepreneur thinks about the guest: the porch facing the forest, the shower, how the light comes in.
The prefab home configurator lets you try something very close: a floor plan editor where rooms can be dragged and resized, editable doors and windows, porch, pool, wood or stone finishes, real bathroom and kitchen fixtures, lighting. Night view shows the cabin with the lights on, which is how a guest sees it when they arrive. I wrote about it in night mode in a 3D configurator.
A smaller cabin, say 6 × 8 m (about 20 × 26 ft), or one with a very different roof gets built to order on the same engine: the structure comes from rules, not from a model someone drew by hand.
Prefab homes for the Central Valley and the coast
In the Central Valley (Heredia, Alajuela, Cartago), the typical prefab home buyer is a Costa Rican family that owns a lot and wants to build faster, with a more predictable price. On the coast you also get the foreigner who decides to stay.
Those are two different conversations, and one configurator can handle both. The local family wants to see how many bedrooms fit and what changes if they add a carport; the foreign buyer wants to understand the house in their own language, maybe in square feet. In prefab home 3D quoting tool I explain how to sell by models and rooms.
The rainy season is part of the pitch too: deep overhangs, covered porches, roof pitch. In 3D those decisions are obvious at a glance.
Warehouses: the local buyer in a hurry
Warehouses (bodegas) have a different buyer: a store that needs storage, a farming business in the Northern Zone, a repair shop. They want dimensions, height, doors and a quick answer.
The metal building configurator is the closest match: width, length, overhang, pitch, frame type, walls, door width and height, walk door, sheeting color. What changes the sale most is that the customer arrives with the configuration already built, and the sales rep knows what they're talking about before calling. I cover that in qualified leads with a 3D quoting tool.
One configurator, two languages, two audiences
The Estructuras 3D site and configurators already run in Spanish and English. For a Costa Rican company, its own configurator can work in both languages, quote in colones or dollars depending on the buyer, and show meters or feet. That's defined as part of the custom development.
What matters is that the English is written for the buyer over there, not translated word for word. A Canadian searches for prefab cabin Costa Rica or modular home Costa Rica, not a literal translation of the Spanish. More in multilingual 3D configurator.
Prices can stay visible to the sales team only. That's how I set up the quoting tool for EQUIBOX, a horse stable manufacturer in Berazategui, Argentina: the public designs and sees in 3D; the sales rep sees prices, shipping and payment options.
Working with me from Costa Rica
I'm Facundo Campo, a software developer based in Quilmes, Buenos Aires, Argentina. I work remotely in English and Spanish. Costa Rica is three hours behind Argentina: 9 a.m. in San José is noon here, so my afternoon lines up with your morning and midday.
Your company sends me its catalog, photos of past projects, a few sample quotes and the rules you apply from memory. I put together a first version and send it as a link to test in the browser or on your phone. Meetings happen over video call, and day-to-day contact over WhatsApp or email.
If you want to see how your product would look, try the 3D configurators, read about custom 3D quoting software, and message me on WhatsApp at +54 9 11 6193-3176 or email facundocampo100@gmail.com. I answer in English and Spanish.
Frequently asked questions
Can the configurator be in English for buyers in the US and Canada?
Yes. Language, currency and units are set during the custom development. The Estructuras 3D site and configurators already work in Spanish and English.
Can a foreign buyer see the house from the inside?
Yes. Walk mode lets them move through it at eye level, and the share link lets them send that same house to anyone they want.
Is there a vacation cabin configurator?
Not as a product of its own. The closest one is the prefab home configurator, with its floor plan editor, porch and finishes. A cabin with a different shape gets built to order on the same engine.
Do you need to travel to Costa Rica?
No. All the work is remote: your company tests each version from a link, and reviews happen over video call.
