3D Configurator for Steel Building Manufacturers in Chile
By Facundo Campo, 3D quoting tool developer
In short: A 3D steel building configurator lets a Chilean manufacturer show and quote farm buildings and warehouses made to order, with the roof pitch, overhangs and walls that rain and wind in central and southern Chile call for.
A 3D steel building configurator is a web tool where the customer designs their farm building or warehouse —width, length, height, roof pitch, walls, doors— and sees it in 3D while choosing, and where the manufacturer calculates the quote with its own rules. For a Chilean steel building company selling anywhere from the Santiago metro area down to Los Lagos, it does something very specific: it shows why a building for the south isn't the same as one for the central valley.
Chilean buildings and their words
In Chile people say galpón for a farm or industrial building, just like in Argentina, and bodega for a warehouse. Purlins are costaneras, trusses are cerchas, and plenty of people call corrugated sheeting zinc, even when it's prepainted steel. If your configurator speaks to customers in those words, they recognize themselves in it. A tool built for another country, using terms they don't use, is one more barrier.
The typical buyer changes by region too. In O'Higgins and Maule, it's the fruit grower who needs storage for supplies or a packing space. In Ñuble and Biobío, the farmer storing machinery and hay. In La Araucanía, Los Ríos and Los Lagos, the dairy or cattle farmer who needs a building for animals, feed or equipment, near Temuco, Osorno or Puerto Montt.
Rain, wind and snow: the southern sales pitch
Southern Chile gets a lot of rain, for months at a time. A farmer near Osorno isn't buying a building: they're buying a dry place for their hay and their tractor. So they ask about things nobody up north asks about:
- Roof pitch. A steeper roof sheds water faster. In 3D you can see the difference between a nearly flat roof and one with a real slope.
- Overhangs. A wide side canopy protects loading and lets machinery through in the rain. The metal building configurator lets you set its width and drop.
- Walls. Open, half-height or fully enclosed. Where rain comes in sideways with the wind, seeing the building closed on the storm side is more convincing than explaining it.
- Snow. In the foothills and higher areas, snow load shapes the structure. That's for the engineer and current local codes, to be checked with a professional; what the configurator does is offer only the options your company builds for that area.
In the central valley the pitch is different: shade, ventilation, clearance for trucks, room to grow. The useful part is that one configurator works for both customers, because the product is built from rules, not from fixed models. I explain this in parametric rendering.
What the customer sees on screen
The metal building configurator on this site shows the base your tool would be built on:
- Width (span) from 6 to 40 m, length from 6 to 90 m, eave height and roof pitch.
- Truss frame, solid-web frame or curved roof.
- Gable or single-slope roof.
- Open, half-height, fully enclosed, or over a block or brick base wall.
- A door with its own width and height (that actually opens), walk door, windows, side canopy with width and drop.
- Structure color, sheeting color and sheeting finishes.
It sits in a realistic farm scene. You can walk through the inside at eye level, see it at night, hide layers to look at the frame, download an image and share a link that opens that exact configuration. It doesn't show prices: pricing is part of the custom build.
What a steel building company gets
- Faster quotes. The rep builds the structure with the customer and doesn't wait for the owner or the engineer on every change. More in the quote in the meeting.
- Fewer mistakes. If a door doesn't fit between two frames at a certain spacing, the configurator doesn't offer it. I cover this in costly quoting mistakes.
- Selling at a distance. It's a long way from Santiago to Puerto Montt. The customer designs the building from the farm, on their phone, and shares it with a partner or the bank.
- Current prices. When steel goes up, you change it in the table and everyone quotes with the new price.
- Production gets what was sold. The configuration the customer approved is the same one that reaches the shop.
Farm shows and fields with no signal
A lot of agricultural sales in Chile happen at farm shows and on farm visits. In both places, the signal drops. A configurator can be made installable and work offline, saving quotes on the device until the connection comes back. That's what I built for EQUIBOX, a horse barn manufacturer in Argentina that sells at agricultural shows. It's covered in offline 3D quoting tool.
How we work from Argentina
I'm Facundo Campo, a software developer in Quilmes, Buenos Aires, Argentina, and I work remotely. Chile and Argentina are on almost the same clock, so we coordinate during regular office hours, in Spanish or English, over WhatsApp, email or video calls.
What I need to get started:
- The building sizes and types you make, even if they live in a spreadsheet.
- The rules: frame spacing, possible roof pitches, which walls go with which structure.
- Photos of finished jobs, so the 3D looks like your buildings.
- Two or three real quotes, so the math matches what you quote today.
Every update reaches you as a link to test in the browser. The configurator can run in Chilean pesos or whatever unit you quote in, with your vocabulary. That's set up during the build. The product details are in metal building 3D quoting tool.
If you run a steel building company in Chile and want to see how your product would look, message me on WhatsApp at +54 9 11 6193-3176 or email facundocampo100@gmail.com. I answer in English and Spanish. You can also read about custom 3D quoting software.
Frequently asked questions
Does the configurator calculate the structure for snow or wind?
It doesn't replace structural design. It applies the rules your company sets: which structures, roof pitches and walls you offer for each case. Structural design and code compliance for each job go to a local professional.
Can it say costaneras, cerchas and zinc?
Yes. Vocabulary, currency and product names are defined during the build, so Chilean customers read their own words.
Does it work out in the field with no signal?
It can be built to work offline: the tool stays installed and saves quotes until the signal comes back, as with EQUIBOX.
How much does a steel building configurator cost?
It's quoted per project, depending on the product and the features you need. There's no list price. The factors are explained in the article on how much a 3D quoting tool costs.
