3D Quoting Tool for Manufacturers in Uruguay: Barns, Stables, Homes
By Facundo Campo, 3D quoting tool developer
In short: In Uruguay, a manufacturer of farm buildings, horse stables or timber homes usually sells to the whole country from one plant; a 3D quoting tool lets it show and quote each custom order without the buyer traveling and without the owner quoting everything.
A 3D quoting tool is a web application where the customer designs a made-to-order product —a farm building, a horse barn, a timber home— and sees it in 3D while choosing, and where the manufacturer calculates the quote with its own rules. In Uruguay it works in a particular way: the market is small, a factory in Canelones or Florida sells to Rivera, Rocha and Colonia, and reputation travels by word of mouth. The quoting tool becomes a showroom that reaches every department at the same time.
A small market where you sell to the whole country
In Argentina, a steel shop in Rafaela sells mostly to its own region. In Uruguay, a company making farm buildings or timber homes sells to the whole country, because distances are manageable and there are fewer manufacturers in each industry. That brings an advantage and a problem.
The advantage is that every customer knows another customer: the farmer in Tacuarembó saw his neighbor's building and asks for one just like it. The problem is that every inquiry, wherever it comes from, ends up with the owner. He knows the prices, what can and can't be done, and he quotes at night after the plant closes. In a market that depends this much on referrals, taking a week to answer hurts.
A 3D quoting tool means that inquiry arrives with the product already configured, and the sales rep —or the customer— can see it and get a quote without waiting for the owner. I wrote about that bottleneck in when the owner quotes everything.
Farm buildings and open-sided sheds
Uruguayan galpones are mostly rural: for machinery, hay, sheep, dairy, small farms. The buyer is a farmer from Durazno, Salto or Paysandú who knows what they need and asks about dimensions, clearance for the combine and whether one side can be closed in.
The metal building configurator on this site shows the starting point: width from 6 to 40 m, length up to 90 m, height, roof pitch, truss or solid-web frame, gable, single-slope or curved roof, open, half-height or fully enclosed walls, a door with its own width and height, a side canopy and colors. It sits in a farm scene, you can walk through it at eye level and share it with a link. It doesn't show prices: pricing is part of each manufacturer's custom build.
Horse stables: an industry with deep roots
Uruguay has a strong horse culture: Criollo horses, endurance rides (raid), racing, rodeo-style jineteadas, stud farms. Barns and stalls are built to order, for a stud in Colonia, a racing stable near Montevideo or a ranch in the interior.
Here there's something concrete to try. The horse stable configurator uses the geometry from the quoting tool I built for EQUIBOX, a horse stall and barn manufacturer in Berazategui, Argentina. It has continuous, center-aisle, facing or single-stall layouts; standard or V-shaped doors, hinged or sliding; wood or barred walls; a simple or truss-frame canopy over the whole barn, with concrete, wood or rubber flooring; and a farm scene with horses. What I built for EQUIBOX —a public quoting tool, a sales dashboard, PDF quotes and offline mode— is in the EQUIBOX case study.
Timber homes and light steel framing
On the coast —Maldonado, Rocha, the Punta del Este area and the beach towns— and inland, there are companies building timber homes, light steel frame homes and modular units. The buyer is often someone from Montevideo or from abroad building a summer house or a house to rent out in season.
The prefab home configurator has a floor plan editor where you drag and resize rooms, add bedrooms, edit openings and add an upper floor with stairs. You pick the roof, wood, stone or brick cladding, flooring, porch, pool and fence, with real bathroom and kitchen furniture. For a timber house on the coast, seeing the porch and the deck from inside sells better than a floor plan. The dry-construction side is covered in steel frame and modular 3D quoting tool.
What a Uruguayan manufacturer gets
- The owner stops quoting everything. The rules for what can be built live in the system and the rep quotes alone. More in sales team autonomy.
- Inquiries from all over the country, already configured. The farmer in Artigas sends his building, not "how much would it be?"
- A showroom for referrals. A happy customer shares the link to their configuration with the neighbor.
- Farm shows with no signal. At the Expo Prado in Montevideo or a show out in the interior, an installable tool keeps working offline and syncs later.
- Current prices. Whether you quote in pesos or dollars, you change the table once and the whole team quotes the same way.
Same time zone, same language
I'm Facundo Campo, a software developer in Quilmes, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Uruguay and Argentina share the same time zone (UTC−3) and speak almost the same Spanish, so working remotely is like working with someone from the next town over. We coordinate over WhatsApp, email or video calls, in Spanish or English, and if needed, the river isn't hard to cross.
To get started, you send me your catalog or product sheets, photos of finished jobs, the rules you use to quote and a few real quotes. Each update arrives as a link to test on your phone, together with your reps. The tool can work in Uruguayan pesos or dollars, however you quote, and with your vocabulary. The process is in how I work with manufacturers.
If you run a farm building, stable or home manufacturing company in Uruguay and want to see how your product would look, message me on WhatsApp at +54 9 11 6193-3176 or email facundocampo100@gmail.com. I answer in English and Spanish. You can also read about custom 3D quoting software.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a horse stable configurator I can try?
Yes. The horse stable configurator is public and uses the geometry from the EQUIBOX quoting tool: layouts, doors, walls and a full-barn canopy. It doesn't show prices.
Can the quoting tool work in dollars?
Yes. Currency, language and units are set up during the build, based on how your company quotes.
Does it work at a farm show with a weak signal?
It can be built as an installable app that works offline: it saves quotes on the device and syncs them when the signal returns, as with EQUIBOX.
Do I need to travel to Buenos Aires to work with you?
No. Everything happens over video calls, WhatsApp and email, in the same time zone. Updates arrive as links to test in the browser.
