Carport 3D Quoting Tool: Small Product, Lots of Inquiries
By Facundo Campo, 3D quoting tool developer
In short: A carport 3D quoting tool lets buyers design their carport —size, roof, attached or freestanding, colors— and see it in 3D, so the manufacturer can handle a high volume of small inquiries without losing hours on each one.
A carport 3D quoting tool is a web tool where a buyer designs the cover for their car by picking the size, roof type, whether it's attached to the house or freestanding, and the colors, and sees it in 3D instantly. Carports are small products that sell a lot and get asked about even more, and that's the catch: every inquiry takes almost as much work as a big metal building, and leaves a lot less behind.
The problem with selling a small product
If you build metal carports, you know the drill. You post a photo on Instagram or Facebook Marketplace and the messages pour in: "price?", "do you do double ones?", "how much for a 3 × 5?", "do you have them with polycarbonate?" Most don't say where they live, how much space they have or whether they want it against the house.
Answering properly means five questions, waiting for replies, running the numbers and sending a quote. Multiply that by a week of good weather and it's a full-time job for someone who's also supposed to be in the shop. And in the end, a big share of those people don't buy: they just wanted a rough idea of the price.
For an 18 × 30 m (about 59 × 98 ft) building, that effort pays off. For a single carport, it doesn't. That's why, in this business, a quoting tool isn't a luxury. It's how you handle the volume without spending your whole day on WhatsApp.
What a carport buyer decides
There aren't many choices, and they're well known, which makes carports perfect for configuring:
- How many cars, and the size. A single 2.5 × 5 m (about 8 × 16 ft), a 3 × 6 m (about 10 × 20 ft) for a pickup, a double 5 × 5 or 6 × 6 m (about 16 × 16 or 20 × 20 ft).
- Attached or freestanding. Against the house wall (almost always single-slope) or standing alone on four corner posts.
- Roof. Single-slope, gable or curved; metal sheeting or polycarbonate.
- Height. Enough for the pickup, or the camper if there is one.
- Walls. Open, one side closed, or with a front panel.
- Colors for the frame and roof.
With those six decisions, you know what to quote. And when buyers see it in 3D in front of their house, they decide faster between single and double, or metal and polycarbonate.
What the manufacturer gets
- Inquiries that show up complete. The message isn't "price?" anymore. It's a configuration with size, roof and colors, plus a picture. More in qualified leads with a 3D quoting tool.
- Less back-and-forth on WhatsApp. The buyer designs it, shares the link, and the conversation starts in the right place. More in WhatsApp and 3D quoting.
- Prices that update themselves. If the tool shows a price, it comes from a price table you manage. When sheeting or steel tube goes up, you change it once and it applies everywhere. I explain it in updating prices with inflation.
- A sales rep who quotes on the sidewalk. If the sale includes a visit to measure, the rep builds the carport on their phone in front of the customer and locks it in.
Install zones and delivery
With carports, the cost of going out to install weighs much more than with a big building, because the product is small. So it makes sense for the quoting tool to ask for the location up front. For EQUIBOX I built per-kilometer shipping; for a carport builder in a metro area it can be simpler: install zones with a cost per zone, or a note that anything beyond a certain radius gets quoted separately. You decide.
What you can try today
There isn't a public carport configurator yet, but the metal building configurator shows the logic: width, length, height, pitch, gable, single-slope or curved roof, open sides, frame color and colored metal finishes. Set up a small, open, single-slope canopy and you're looking at something very close to a freestanding carport. It has night view, layers, image download and a share link, and it works on a phone. It doesn't show prices.
A carport with your sizes, your profiles, polycarbonate and the attached-to-a-wall option gets built as custom work on that same engine, which generates the structure from rules. If you also build pergolas or covered patios, the same project can include them; there's an article on the pergola and carport 3D quoting tool.
How to get started
I'm Facundo Campo, a software developer based in Quilmes, Buenos Aires, Argentina, and I build 3D quoting tools and configurators for manufacturers. For a carport builder, what I need is what you already use to quote: standard sizes, roof types, materials, how you work out the price today and two or three real quotes. We talk on a video call and every step reaches you as a link to try on your phone.
If you build carports and want to stop answering "price?" one message at a time, message me on WhatsApp at +54 9 11 6193-3176 or email facundocampo100@gmail.com. I answer in English and Spanish. You can also read about custom 3D quoting software.
Frequently asked questions
Is a quoting tool worth it for such a small product?
Precisely because it's small. Each inquiry leaves a thin margin, so it can't cost an hour of someone's time. The tool does the repetitive work and your rep gets the inquiries that are already defined.
Can it show the carport attached to the house?
That can be built: a reference wall at the height the buyer enters, so they see how the attached carport looks. The engine already generates single-slope roofs resting on a frame.
Does the buyer see the price?
That's your call. With carports, showing a ballpark price often makes sense, since it's the first thing everyone asks; you can also keep it for sales reps only. The public configurators on this site don't show prices.
Does it work for polycarbonate carports?
Yes. The roof material is just another option, with its own price and its own look in 3D. It gets added during the build with the materials you use.
