Dome and Glamping 3D Configurator: Sell the Stay Before It's Built

Face-brick prefab home with a gable metal roof, a porch and black window frames, in 3D
Face brick, a gable metal roof and a porch: a three-bedroom home put together room by room.

In short: A dome and glamping 3D configurator is a web tool where the buyer picks the unit type (dome, tent or cabin), size, openings, deck and interior, walks through it at eye level and sees it at night, and the manufacturer receives an inquiry with everything defined.

A dome and glamping 3D configurator is a web tool where the buyer picks the unit they want —a geodesic dome, a safari or bell tent, a small cabin—, the size, the openings, the deck and the interior, then sees it in 3D, walks through it and checks how it looks at night. For a manufacturer in this space, it's how you sell to someone who doesn't have a product in mind yet, just the experience they want to offer their guests.

Who buys a glamping dome and what they need to see

The person buying a glamping dome has almost never owned one. They're a hospitality entrepreneur: a landowner in the hills who wants to add lodging, a couple who bought land with a lake view, a winery that wants visitors to stay the night, a cabin resort owner looking for something different.

They aren't buying canvas, tubing and a wood floor. They're buying their future guests' night. Their questions aren't technical: Will a queen bed and an armchair fit? Does the bathroom go inside or in a separate unit? What does the panoramic window look like from the bed? How does it look at night with the lights on?

Photos of other projects and a spec sheet don't answer any of that. So the buyer hesitates, asks for more photos, asks the same thing three times, and often never decides.

What the buyer builds in a glamping configurator

A dome and glamping configurator can run through these steps:

  1. Unit type. Geodesic dome, bell tent, safari tent, A-frame cabin or module. Each manufacturer has its own line.
  2. Size. Dome diameter or tent and cabin dimensions, within what you produce. A 6 m (20 ft) dome and an 8 m (26 ft) dome change everything about what fits inside.
  3. Openings. Panoramic window, round windows, skylight, door. Where each one goes and which way it faces.
  4. Cover and color. Canvas or cladding color, insulation, double layer.
  5. Deck and base. Wraparound wood deck, steps, railing, a raised platform if the ground slopes.
  6. Interior. Bed, built-in bathroom or a separate bathroom pod, wood stove or heating, kitchenette.

The 3D view reflects every decision as it's made. A 7 m dome with the panoramic window facing the valley and a deck out front stops being a spec sheet and becomes a picture the buyer can send to a partner or to the bank.

Walk through it and see it at night

Two features matter more for glamping than for almost any other product.

The first is walking through it. All three Estructuras 3D configurators have a Walk mode: you move through the building, the house or the barn at eye level. In a dome, that means standing at the door and seeing where the bed sits, how much room is left and what you see out the window. I go into it in walking through a 3D configurator.

The second is night view. Glamping sells on the night shot: the dome lit up from inside in the middle of nowhere. The configurators have a night view with lighting, and in a dome configurator that's probably the view buyers will share the most. More in night mode in a 3D configurator.

What a dome manufacturer gets out of it

  • Inquiries with the project already built. Instead of "how much is a dome?", you get a dome with a set size, openings, deck and interior, plus an image.
  • Sales that move without an in-person meeting. The buyer is usually far from your shop. With a link to their configuration, the conversation starts from something concrete. I cover that in selling made-to-order products remotely.
  • Multi-unit projects. Someone building a glamping site rarely buys just one. A configurator can add several units to the same order, each set up differently, and total them with your rules.
  • Fewer gaps between what was sold and what gets built. The order reaches the shop with diameter, openings and accessories defined.

The price comes from your own rules: frame size by diameter, canvas area, openings, deck, interior and delivery. When you change a price, you change it in your own price table without calling anyone. I wrote about that in updating prices with inflation.

What exists today and what's built custom

Domes and tents aren't among the three public configurators on this site. What exists is an engine that generates structures from rules, and a dome configurator is built custom on top of it. To get a feel for it, the closest things to try are the prefab home configurator, with its floor plan editor, real furniture, lighting and Walk mode, and the metal building configurator, to see how a structure changes when you change its size.

The public configurators don't show prices. They do have a share link that opens exactly the configuration the customer built, and they work on phones and tablets.

If you sell abroad, the configurator can be in your buyer's language. I cover one market in domes, cabins and glamping in Mexico, and cabins in log cabin 3D configurator.

How we'd work together

I'm Facundo Campo, a software developer in Quilmes, Buenos Aires, Argentina. I work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and email, in English and Spanish. For a dome and glamping configurator, I need your catalog with photos, the sizes and openings you offer, what goes in each interior, how you price the deck, and two or three real quotes. With that I build a first version you test from a link, correct and approve.

If you build domes, tents or glamping cabins and want to see your product in 3D, message me on WhatsApp at +54 9 11 6193-3176 or email facundocampo100@gmail.com. You can also read about custom 3D quoting software.

Frequently asked questions

Can buyers see the dome on their own land?

In the current configurators the scene is a generic field or lot. Showing the dome in a setting close to the buyer's —hills, woods, coast— can be built custom. There's no augmented reality.

Can a buyer put several units in one order?

It can be built that way: one order with several domes or tents, each with its own setup, and the total calculated with your rules. That's useful because glamping projects usually have more than one unit.

Does it work for canvas tents, not just rigid domes?

Yes. The configurator is built around each manufacturer's product rules: domes, bell tents, safari tents or cabins. What changes is the parts and options, not the way you sell.

Does the customer see the price?

That's up to you. You can show a reference price or keep pricing for your sales reps only, as EQUIBOX does. The demo configurators on this site don't show prices.
