In short: A garage and workshop 3D quoting tool is a web app where the buyer designs a small metal building (size, roll-up or sliding door, walk door, windows, lean-to and finishes), sees it in 3D and requests a quote based on that exact configuration.

A garage and workshop 3D quoting tool is a web app where your buyer designs their small metal building —size, main door, walk door, windows, lean-to, colors— and sees it in 3D before asking for a price. For the fabricator, it's a way to handle lots of similar-but-never-identical inquiries without every single one turning into a sketch and a phone call.

A small product with a lot of questions

The steel garage or workshop is the product that brings in the most inquiries and leaves the least room to waste time on each. People want one to park the car and the truck behind the house, to set up a welding or woodworking shop, to keep a compact tractor and tools out on the farm, or as storage for a small business.

The questions repeat, with small twists:

  • "Will my pickup with a camper shell fit through that door?"
  • "Can I put the walk door on the side instead of the front?"
  • "What does it look like with a brick front?"
  • "If I go 6 × 9 m instead of 6 × 6 (about 20 × 30 ft instead of 20 × 20), does it change much?"

Answering each one by hand means a message, a drawing and a wait. And on the other end is someone comparing you with two or three other local builders.

What the buyer builds in a garage configurator

The metal buildings configurator on this site already covers most of what a garage or workshop needs, because it's the same product at a smaller scale. The buyer can choose:

  1. Size: width, length, eave height and roof pitch.
  2. Roof: gable or single-slope, which matters a lot for a garage built against a property line.
  3. Walls: metal sheeting, block plus sheeting, or exposed brick with pilasters so the shop matches the house.
  4. Main door, with its width and height, and you can see it open.
  5. Walk door and windows.
  6. Side lean-to, with its width and drop, to park in the shade or work outside.
  7. Frame color and colored sheeting trims.

Everything shows up in 3D while they choose, in a rural scene. With Walk-through mode, the buyer walks around inside at eye level and figures out whether there's room for a workbench next to the car. With Share, they send the link to their spouse or business partner, and it opens that exact configuration.

A backyard garage and a farm shop don't sell the same way

A good quoting tool for this niche is built with both typical buyers in mind.

The homeowner thinks about the lot, the property line, the door facing the street and how it looks from the sidewalk. Color matters, the brick front matters, and so does not dumping roof water on the neighbor. For that buyer, seeing the garage with the finishes they picked is what closes it.

The farm buyer thinks about equipment, door height, the floor and airflow. They want a lean-to to work in the shade and a walk door so they don't have to open the big one every time. For them, what matters is that the numbers match their tractor and their truck.

The rules are the same: frames, purlins, sheeting, doors that have to fit between posts. What changes is the order of the questions and the defaults. That gets set up for each manufacturer, on the same engine. I explain it in parametric rendering and in turning the owner's know-how into rules.

What the fabricator gets out of it

With a lower-ticket, higher-volume product, what you win back is the time of the people who know how to quote.

  • Fewer blank inquiries. Whoever writes in has already picked the size, door and walls. The question stops being "how much is a garage?"
  • Fewer mistakes. A door can't be wider than the bay or taller than the eave: that rule lives in the system, not in somebody's memory. More on that in costly quoting mistakes.
  • Reps quote on their own. With live pricing, a rep or whoever's at the front counter builds the quote without waiting for the owner.
  • Buyers decide faster. Seeing the shop with a brick front and the door open settles doubts that take days over text.

Pricing and options, built for you

The public configurators don't show prices. In a project for a manufacturer, the price comes from the same configuration, with a table the company updates on its own: steel, sheeting by color, doors by size, labor, delivery and installation. If steel goes up, you change one value and every new quote goes out right.

You can also add options that aren't in the public configurator but are in your catalog: roll-up or sectional doors, insulation, gutters, a concrete slab, electrical. Each one gets built for you and added to the calculation.

How to get started

I'm Facundo Campo, a software developer in Quilmes, Buenos Aires, Argentina, and I build 3D quoting tools for manufacturers that sell made-to-order products. For a garage or workshop, what I need is your list of standard sizes, the options you offer and a couple of sample quotes. With that, I put together a first version you can try from a link. If you also sell neighboring products, take a look at pergola and carport 3D quoting tool and carport 3D quoting tool.

If you build garages, workshops or small metal buildings, message me on WhatsApp at +54 9 11 6193-3176 or email facundocampo100@gmail.com. I answer in English and Spanish. Or see how custom 3D quoting software development works.

Frequently asked questions

Can I try a garage configurator today?

Yes: the metal buildings configurator works for a garage or shop with small dimensions, a main door, walk door, windows, a lean-to and exposed brick. The options specific to your catalog get added in the custom build.

Can the garage be shown next to a house?

The public metal building scene is rural. An urban scene with the lot, the house and the sidewalk can be built for you; the prefab home configurator already has a house on a suburban lot, so the engine handles it.

Does the buyer see the price?

That's up to you. You can show a reference price on your website or have the number appear only when a rep is logged in. Either way, it comes from the same configuration shown in 3D.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. The configurators run on phones and tablets with nothing to install, which is where garage buyers are looking.
