3D Configurator for Agricultural Sheds in Ireland

In short: A 3D configurator lets an Irish agricultural shed manufacturer have farmers design a machinery shed, hay shed, slatted shed or stable block in 3D, share it with family and the advisor, and send an inquiry with the dimensions settled.

A 3D configurator for an Irish farm buildings company is a web tool where a farmer designs their shed (span, length, height, walls, doors, a lean-to) and sees it in 3D while deciding, then sends the inquiry with everything set. In Ireland a shed is a big decision that's usually talked over at the kitchen table, with family, the advisor and sometimes the neighbor who built one last year. A link that opens the exact shed makes that conversation a lot easier.

What Irish farmers are building

If you fabricate or erect farm buildings in Cork, Tipperary, Kilkenny, Limerick, Galway or Meath, the requests are familiar:

  • Machinery and general-purpose sheds, open-fronted or fully closed, with a big door for the tractor and trailer.
  • Hay and round bale sheds, often with open sides and a lean-to.
  • Slatted sheds for cattle, with a slatted floor over the tank, feeding passage and pens.
  • Stables and stable yards, from a few stables for a family to larger setups in horse country around Kildare.

And they all come with the same opening question: "What would a shed of about 18 by 30 meters cost me, with walls halfway up and sheeting above?" Behind that question there are a dozen decisions the farmer hasn't made yet.

The weather sells the walls

In Ireland the cladding isn't a cosmetic choice. Wind and rain decide which sides are closed, how far the roof overhangs and whether the upper wall is sheeted or finished in spaced timber boards for ventilation (Yorkshire boarding). A configurator that lets the farmer see the shed closed on the windward side and open on the yard side answers a question that's hard to explain on the phone.

The metal building configurator on this site already shows a lot of that in a realistic rural setting:

  • Span from 6 to 40 m, length from 6 to 90 m, eave height, roof pitch and frame spacing.
  • Truss, solid-web or curved-roof frames; gable or single-slope roof.
  • Open-sided, half-height or fully enclosed walls; block and sheeting, or brick with pilasters.
  • A sliding door with width and height that opens; walk doors and windows.
  • A side canopy (lean-to) with its own width and drop.
  • Structure color, sheeting finishes and colors, and concrete, timber or rubber floors.

With night view the farmer sees the yard lit up on a December evening, and with walk-through mode they stand inside at eye level and check the height for the loader.

Slatted sheds and stables

A slatted shed has pieces the public configurator doesn't have: slats, tank, feed barrier, pens. Those are built to order. The engine generates structures from rules, so your slatted shed would follow your rules: your pen sizes, your feeding passage widths, how the frame spacing lines up with the pens. I explain how that works in turning building rules into software.

Stables are ready to try. The horse stable configurator has 1 to 20 stables of 3 × 3, 3.5 × 3.5 or 4 × 4 m in a row, center aisle, facing rows or a single stable, tack rooms, hinged or sliding doors, V-front doors, timber walls or walls with bars, and a surrounding canopy. It uses the same geometry as the quoting tool I built for EQUIBOX, a horse stable manufacturer in Argentina.

Grants and building specifications for farm buildings have their own requirements; the farmer should go through those with their advisor or engineer. The configurator shows the shed you build, it doesn't certify it.

What changes for the manufacturer

  • Fewer yard visits just to get the basics. The farmer shows up with span, length, walls and doors decided, and you visit when it's worth it.
  • Quotes that don't miss things. A rule says which door fits which frame spacing, and the lean-to and the gutters are always counted. See costly quoting mistakes.
  • Something to show at the Ploughing and the marts. A farmer designs their shed on a tablet at your stand and takes the link home. See selling at agricultural shows.
  • It works out in the yard. On a phone with a weak signal, too: a custom tool can be made to work offline. See offline 3D quoting.

Prices are up to you. The public configurators on this site don't show them; in a custom build, prices appear on the website or only for your sales reps, with a price table you can update when steel goes up.

Working with me from Argentina

I'm Facundo Campo, a software developer in Quilmes, Buenos Aires, and I build 3D quoting tools and configurators for manufacturers end to end. Ireland is three or four hours ahead of Argentina depending on the season, so my morning is your afternoon, and we talk then.

You send me your brochure, photos of finished sheds, drawings of your standard buildings and a few sample quotes. We go over them on a video call. I send you links to try in any browser, and you approve it step by step. I work in English and Spanish. The tool can be built in meters, in feet, or both, depending on how your customers talk.

Frequently asked questions

Can I configure a slatted shed today?

Not in the public configurators. The closest is the metal building configurator, for the structure, walls and doors. Slats, tanks and pens are built to order on the same engine, with your rules.

Does it work on a farm with poor coverage?

The public configurators run in the browser, on phones and tablets. For a custom tool, offline use can be built in: quotes are saved on the device and sync when the signal comes back, as in the EQUIBOX system.

Does the configurator check grant or planning requirements?

No. Those depend on the scheme, the building and the local authority, and should go through the farmer's advisor or engineer. The configurator shows your product.

Can it show prices in euros?

Yes, if you want prices shown. In a custom build you decide whether the farmer sees a price on the website or whether prices stay with your sales team.
