Prefab and Modular Home Configurator for Builders in Mexico

Wood siding, a single-slope roof and a pool: the yard, porch and fence come from the same configuration.

In short: A 3D prefab home configurator lets a Mexican manufacturer sell to families who are far from the lot, in another state or in the United States, because they design the house in 3D, walk through it and share it by link.

A prefab home configurator is a web tool where the buyer lays out their house —bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, roof, facade— and sees it in 3D, outside and inside, while the manufacturer calculates the quote with its own rules. In Mexico it has a very specific job: a good share of the people buying a prefab, modular or panel-built home aren't standing on the lot. They're in another state, or across the border.

The buyer who isn't on the lot

Think of a family from Zacatecas who has lived in Chicago for years. They own a lot back in their hometown and want to build a house to retire in, for their parents, or for the holidays. They can't drive to the factory to see a model home, they can't spend an afternoon with the sales rep, and they have nobody to ask whether the living room will feel too small. What they do have is a phone, WhatsApp, and relatives in town who can go look at the lot.

The same thing happens, with different names, with buyers who live in Mexico City and build in Michoacán, Jalisco or Oaxaca. For the manufacturer, each of those customers is a sale made almost entirely at a distance, with photos, PDF floor plans and a lot of voice messages.

Why a PDF floor plan isn't enough

A floor plan works for people who can read one. Most families can't picture from a drawing how big a 3 × 3 m bedroom (about 10 × 10 ft) is, whether the kitchen opens to the living room, or where the carport goes. So they ask the same thing several times, request changes they later undo, and take weeks to decide, because they have to run it by a brother in Texas and a mother back home.

With a 3D configurator, the family builds the house and looks at it. Want another bedroom? Add it. Living room feels small? Make it bigger. And instead of forwarding the plan to everyone, they share a link that opens that exact house. The brother sees it on his phone in Houston, the mother on hers in Zacatecas, and they're all looking at the same thing. I wrote about why this matters on a phone in mobile 3D quoting tools.

What you can build in the prefab home configurator

The prefab home configurator on this site shows the starting point: the house sits on a neighborhood lot with a sidewalk and a street, and it's built room by room. There's a floor plan editor where you drag rooms, resize them, add bedrooms, edit doors, windows and the entrance, move furniture and add an upper floor with stairs. It has dimensions, undo and redo.

You also choose the roof (flat concrete slab, single-slope or gable metal roof), the stucco and accent color, flooring (ceramic tile, porcelain or wood), brick, stone or wood cladding, a covered porch, a pool, a wall or a fence, and real furniture for the bathroom, kitchen and laundry. A walk-through mode lets you move through the house at eye level, which is the closest thing to visiting a model home. It doesn't show prices: pricing is part of each manufacturer's custom build.

What the manufacturer gets

  • Selling without a model home. The model home still works for people who can visit. The 3D works for everyone else.
  • Less back and forth. The family decides by looking, not by imagining. The questions you get are about the house they built, not about what each line on the plan means.
  • Inquiries with the house already laid out. When they ask for a quote, it comes with the configuration: how many bedrooms, which roof, which facade. More on that in qualified leads with a 3D quoting tool.
  • Rules that protect what you can actually build. If your panel system doesn't allow a certain span or a slab in a certain layout, the configurator doesn't offer it.
  • One standard across all your reps. Whoever answers at the plant and whoever answers on WhatsApp quote the same way.

Two languages, sometimes two currencies

Many of these families have kids who read English better than Spanish. Having the configurator in both languages isn't a nice extra: it means the person helping to pay understands what they're looking at. The site and the configurators already run in Spanish and English. For your tool, language, currency (pesos, or dollars as a reference) and units are set up during the build, depending on how you sell. Tax and money transfer questions are for your company and its accountant, not the software.

What working remotely with me looks like

I'm Facundo Campo, a software developer in Quilmes, Buenos Aires, Argentina, and I design and build 3D quoting tools and configurators for manufacturers. I work remotely. Mexico is only a few hours behind Argentina (UTC−3), so our workdays overlap almost completely, and the same goes for your buyers in the US.

What I need from you is what you already use to sell:

  • Your catalog models and their floor plans, even if they're PDFs.
  • The rules of your building system: panel or module sizes, heights, what can move and what can't.
  • Photos of finished homes and the finishes you offer.
  • A few real quotes, so the math matches what your team quotes today.

Every update arrives as a link to test on a phone or a computer. We talk over WhatsApp, email or video calls, in English or Spanish. The full process is in how a 3D quoting tool is built, and the home-specific details are in prefab home 3D quoting tool.

Panel, modular or site-built

The building system matters less than whether it has rules. A panel home is built from fixed-width panels; a modular home from boxes that get trucked in; a site-built home from a standard design, by rooms with minimum sizes. In all three cases, what the owner knows about what can and can't be done becomes rules the configurator follows. Whatever falls outside —a fully custom design— still goes to the architect.

If you run a prefab home company in Mexico and want your buyers, wherever they are, to see their house before they pay the deposit, message me on WhatsApp at +54 9 11 6193-3176 or email facundocampo100@gmail.com. I answer in English and Spanish. You can also see how custom 3D quoting software projects work.

Frequently asked questions

Can a buyer in the US use it without installing anything?

Yes. It opens from a link in the browser on a phone, tablet or computer. There's no app to download and no account needed to look at the house.

Can the family share the house they designed?

Yes. The Share button creates a link that opens that exact configuration. Anyone who gets it sees the same house, with the same bedrooms, roof and facade.

Does the configurator show the price to the buyer?

That's up to the manufacturer. You can show a reference price or keep pricing for your sales reps only. The public configurators on this site don't show prices.

Does it work if my homes are panel-built, not modular?

Yes. What matters is that your system has rules: panel sizes, heights, possible openings. Those rules go into the configurator and the house gets built following them.
