In short: A prefab home 3D configurator lets a Colombian manufacturer sell to buyers from Bogotá, Medellín or Cali building on a finca or a country lot, and to Colombians living abroad, because they design the house, adapt it to the local climate and walk through it before asking for a price.

A prefab home 3D configurator is a web tool where the buyer lays out their house —bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, veranda, roof, facade— and sees it in 3D, outside and inside, while the manufacturer calculates the quote with its own rules. In Colombia, the typical buyer has a very clear profile: they live in the city, they've bought a finca (a small country property) or a lot in a country development a few hours away, and they want to build without spending every weekend supervising a job site.

The city buyer building in the country

Picture a couple from Bogotá who bought a lot in the warm lowlands near Anapoima or Melgar, so they have somewhere to spend long holiday weekends. Or a family from Medellín with a lot in eastern Antioquia, around Rionegro or El Retiro. Or someone from Cali with a finca in the Coffee Region, between Pereira and Armenia. They all have the same things in common: the land is far from where they live, they're not builders, and a prefab home solves the problem of a long construction job.

What it doesn't solve is picturing the house. The catalog shows named models with floor plans, but the buyer wants to know other things: what does the veranda look like facing the mountains? Does the kitchen open to the living area? Is there room for one more bedroom for when the in-laws visit? How does it look with clay tile versus a metal roof?

Warm country, cold country

In Colombia, climate depends on altitude rather than season, and buyers know it well. Locals talk about tierra caliente (warm, low-lying country) and tierra fría (cold highlands), and a country house in one isn't the same as in the other. That changes what they ask:

  • In warm country they want high ceilings, deep verandas, cross ventilation, a pool and a barbecue area.
  • In cold country, on the Bogotá savanna or the highlands around it, they want a more closed-in house, good insulation, a fireplace if you offer one, windows that keep the heat in.
  • In mild climates, like much of the Coffee Region, they want a bit of everything, and a view.

A 3D configurator lets the buyer see those differences on their own house: the same floor plan with a deeper veranda, a different roof, with or without a pool. Technical and code questions —seismic design, permits, each town's licensing— are handled by your company with a local professional; the configurator only offers what you deliver for each case.

What you can build today

The prefab home configurator on this site shows the starting point. The house comes together in a floor plan editor: you drag rooms, resize them, add bedrooms, edit doors, windows and the entrance, move furniture and add a second floor with stairs. On top of that:

  • A flat slab roof, single-slope or gable.
  • Stucco and an accent color; ceramic, porcelain or wood flooring.
  • Brick, stone or wood cladding, inside and out.
  • Porch (the veranda), pool and fence.
  • Real bathroom, kitchen, laundry and closet furniture, and lighting.

A walk-through mode lets the buyer move through the house at eye level, and the night view shows it lit up. Share sends a link that opens that exact house. It doesn't show prices: pricing is part of the custom build. I explain how the editor works in floor plan editor for prefab homes.

Colombians abroad

There's another buyer, less visible but important: Colombians living in Spain, the US or elsewhere who want to build on the family lot or on a finca to come back to. They can't visit a model home and depend on relatives to look at the land. For them, the shared link is the tool: they design the house wherever they live, send it to their parents or siblings, and everyone weighs in on the same thing.

If that buyer is a big part of your business, the configurator can run in Spanish and English, in Colombian pesos or a reference currency. That's set up during the build. I wrote about this kind of sale in selling made-to-order products remotely.

What the Colombian manufacturer gets

  • Fewer model-home visits just to settle the basics. The buyer shows up at your sales office with the house already thought through.
  • Inquiries with the house laid out. How many bedrooms, which roof, which veranda, which climate. More in qualified leads with a 3D quoting tool.
  • Rules that protect what you can build. If your system doesn't allow a certain span or a certain second floor, the configurator doesn't offer it.
  • One standard across all your sales advisors. The one in Bogotá and the one in Medellín quote with the same rules and the same price table.
  • Current prices. When costs change, you update the table once.

How we work remotely

I'm Facundo Campo, a software developer in Quilmes, Buenos Aires, Argentina. I design and build 3D quoting tools and configurators for companies that sell made to order, and I work remotely. Colombia is two hours behind Argentina (UTC−3), so our workdays overlap almost completely. We talk over WhatsApp, email or video calls, in Spanish or English.

To get started, you send me your models with their floor plans, the rules of your building system (module or panel sizes, heights, what can move), photos of homes delivered in different climates and a few real quotes. Each update arrives as a link to test on your phone. You review it with your sales advisors and it gets adjusted. The full process is in how I work with manufacturers, and the home-specific side in prefab home 3D quoting tool.

If you run a prefab home company in Colombia and want buyers to see their country house before asking for a price, message me on WhatsApp at +54 9 11 6193-3176 or email facundocampo100@gmail.com. I answer in English and Spanish. You can also read about custom 3D quoting software.

Frequently asked questions

Can the buyer adapt the house to warm or cold country?

That can be built to order: the options you offer for each climate, like verandas, roofs or insulation, show up in the configurator and can be seen in 3D.

Can a Colombian living abroad use it?

Yes. It opens from a link in the browser, with nothing to install, and the finished design can be shared with family. Language and currency are set up during the build.

Does the configurator handle permits or seismic design?

No. It applies your company's rules. Codes and each town's permits should be checked with a local professional.

Does it show the price to the buyer?

That's up to the manufacturer: a reference price, or pricing visible only to your sales advisors. The public configurators on this site don't show prices.
