In short: A 3D configurator lets a Spanish manufacturer of timber homes, bungalows and garden sheds have homeowners, campsites and rural lodgings design their order in 3D, share it and get a quote calculated with the manufacturer's own rules and prices.

A 3D configurator for timber homes and bungalows is a web app where the buyer picks the model, size, roof, porch and finishes, sees it in 3D right away and asks for a quote with everything defined. In Spain, where the same manufacturer might sell a garden shed to a homeowner in Girona and six bungalows to a campsite on the Costa Brava, it lets you serve both without every inquiry going through the workshop.

Three buyers, one manufacturer

A Spanish timber building manufacturer usually has three product lines, each with a buyer asking different questions:

  • Timber homes (casas de madera) for full-time living or a second home, in Asturias, Cantabria, the Pyrenees, the mountains outside Madrid or Galicia. The buyer wants to know the layout, insulation, finishes and how it looks with the porch.
  • Bungalows and cabins for campsites, rural lodgings (alojamiento rural) and holiday parks. The buyer is a business owner purchasing several units, thinking about how many guests each one sleeps and how they look together on the site.
  • Garden sheds (casetas de jardín), storage sheds and small backyard studios. A quick purchase, by size and price, often from a phone.

What they share is a very visual product: the wood, the roof, the porch, the color. Buyers decide by looking, and today they look at photos of models that aren't quite theirs.

The campsite buying six bungalows

Take an example. A campsite on the Costa Brava wants to replace six units: two-bedroom bungalows with a bathroom, a kitchen-dining area and a covered porch with a railing. They're torn between a gable and a single-slope roof, and want two of the six to have an extra bedroom.

Without a configurator, the campsite manager sends an email, the rep passes it to the technician, the technician draws two plans, the quote comes back a week later, and the manager has to explain it to the partners with a PDF. With a 3D configurator, the rep builds the bungalow, switches the roof, adds the bedroom and sends two links: the base model and the three-bedroom one. The partners open them, walk through at eye level, see them at night with the lights on and come back with a decision. The quote comes from those two configurations, for six units.

For a tourism business, the night view matters: guests arrive, have dinner and walk back to the bungalow under artificial light. I wrote about that in night mode in a 3D configurator.

What you can try today, and what gets custom-built

The site's prefab home configurator is the closest thing to a timber home or a bungalow: a floor plan editor to drag, resize and add rooms; doors, windows and the entrance; an upper floor with stairs; flat, single-slope or gable roofs; wood, stone or brick cladding inside and out; wood flooring; a porch, a pool and a fence; real bathroom, kitchen and closet furniture, and lighting. You can walk through it, see it at night and share it by link.

What isn't in the public configurator and gets built on the same engine:

  • Your building system: solid timber, logs, light timber framing or panels, with their thicknesses and joints.
  • Your catalog models as starting points, with their size ranges.
  • Garden sheds, with their standard sizes, double doors, windows and colors.
  • Several units on one site, for the campsite that wants to see all six bungalows together.

The engine generates the structure from rules, so adding a product means describing its parts and rules, not modeling every variation. I explain it in parametric rendering, and for timber specifically in log cabin 3D configurator.

The garden shed: small product, lots of inquiries

With sheds the challenge flips: lots of small-ticket inquiries, almost all from phones. A homeowner in Seville wants a 3 × 2 m shed for tools; another in Bilbao wants a 4 × 3 m garden studio with a big window. If each one asks for a quote by email, the rep spends the day answering the same thing.

With a configurator, the homeowner picks the model, size and color, sees the shed in 3D and requests a quote with everything set. If the manufacturer wants, a reference price shows in euros, or it's left to the rep. And since the link opens that exact configuration, the homeowner shares it with the family before deciding. More on that in sharing a configuration by link.

Permits and local rules

Every town council and autonomous community has its own rules for building on rural land, at campsites or in backyards. The configurator doesn't solve that: buyers should check with a local professional. What it does is make sure your manufacturing rules are always followed, so nobody sells a combination your workshop can't build.

Working with a developer in Argentina

I'm Facundo Campo, a software developer based in Quilmes, Buenos Aires, Argentina, and I focus on 3D quoting tools and configurators for manufacturers. I work remotely in Spanish and English; with Spain, my morning is your afternoon. We start with a video call; you send me your catalog, photos of installations, sample quotes and your workshop's rules, and I send you links to try each step in the browser. If you want to know what hiring from Europe looks like, see hiring a remote 3D configurator developer from Europe.

If you build timber homes, bungalows or garden sheds in Spain, message me on WhatsApp at +54 9 11 6193-3176 or email facundocampo100@gmail.com. I answer in English and Spanish. Or see how custom 3D quoting software works.

Frequently asked questions

Can I show my exact timber system?

Yes, as part of a custom build. The public configurator has wood cladding; your system —logs, solid timber, panels— gets loaded with its rules so the 3D shows how you build.

Can buyers see several bungalows together on a site?

Not in the public configurator. It can be developed for campsites and rural lodgings that buy several units.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. The configurators run on phones, tablets and computers, with nothing to install.

Does the configurator work for garden sheds?

Sheds aren't in the public configurators, but they get built on the same engine, with your sizes, doors, windows and colors.
